Network Cable

A network cable, also known as an Ethernet cable, is a type of cable used to connect devices in a computer network. It is designed to transmit data between computers, switches, routers, and other networking devices.

1、Is Ethernet same as network cable?

Ethernet is a type of networking technology used to transmit data over a network. It is often used with network cables, such as twisted pair cables, which are also commonly referred to as Ethernet cables.

So while Ethernet is not the same thing as a network cable, they are closely related and are often used together in networking. Ethernet provides the rules and protocols for how data is transmitted over a network, while network cables provide the physical connection for transmitting that data between devices.

2、How do I identify a network cable?

Network cables come in different types, but most commonly used are Ethernet cables. An Ethernet cable typically has an RJ-45 connector on both ends, which looks like a wider and thicker version of a telephone jack. The cable itself is usually flat or round and can be made of either PVC or plenum material.

Ethernet cables also come in different categories (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat7) that determine the speed and performance of the cable. These categories are usually printed on the cable jacket.

To identify a network cable, look for an RJ-45 connector on both ends, check the cable type, and look for any labeling or printing on the cable jacket that indicates its category or purpose.
